Maybe I am late or missed the tweet about www.dipity.com. This website allows you to create interactive timelines that are impressive, user-friendly, and portable. You can embed your finished product on any website that you desire. There is a scroller at the bottom that allows you to view the length of time and speech balloons along the way to capture each milestone AND share each individual milestone with any of popular the social media sites. You are also able to add picutres and video to the speech ballons. I am so blown away by this technology because I have been creating websites since 1998 and it still amazes me how the web has evolved. This technology would traditionally have been done using flash & actionscript and would have taken hours to create. The fact that anybody can just sign up and produce this kind of timeline is mind blowing! I am definitely going to try to create a timeline myself. In the meantime, someone else created the timeline below about prominent Oprah Winfrey's shows. Take a look:
I came across this fabulous website called www.animoto.com. It allows you to create you own video slideshows. You have the option of selecting from templates, starting form scratch, adding your own music, or using one of their mp3s.. Since I work for Cheyney University and they are celebrating their 175th anniversary next year, I decided to sample this site by creating a slideshow for the 175th anniversary. Take a look at my finished product below:

The Microsoft Digital Literacy Basic Curriculum provides absolute beginners with the Microsoft Digital Literacy: First Course which is required to begin to using a computer. This course is ideal for learners who are a bit shy about working with a computer and are using a computer for the very first time.
The Digital Literacy Standard Curriculum Version 2 consists of five courses:
Each course has an e-learning module and an assessment. You can also take the certificate test, which covers topics from all five courses. If you pass the certificate test, you can print out a personalized Digital Literacy Certificate. All students and new and current Cheyney University employees that work daily on the computer, are highly encouraged to take all five of the standard curriculum version 2 courses and pass the certificate test.
The Digital Literacy Advanced Curriculum consists of the following courses:
All courses are video based, so you must have speakers or headsets to participate on the computer.

A lot of people want to attempt to create a website by themselves as opposed to hiring a professional web designer/developer. It really depends if you are into it. It just like anything else. All of us can paint a bedroom but do we really want to put in the time and energy to paint the room ourselves or sit back and hire a professional. You also do not want your finished site to look "home made" easpeically if you are launching a business. Basically there are pros and cons so just keep that in mind.
Also free websites do not mean an easy to use. Most of the the free website are content mangement systems so there is always a learning curve.
Here are a list of websites that claim to be free. Before you to commit to one on this list, please look at the features, the pricing page, and the amount of space you are alloted. There usually is always a pricing page because the free website is limited and additonal features are available once you pay for them. Usually the free website comes with ads and if you upgrade to the next level and pay a small fee, you willnot have the ads.
